12 Day North to South Tour - departing Tuesday 26th June 2012
DAY 1 | Tuesday 26 June 2012
. . . let’s escape the city!
You will be met at Sydney Airport by your Tour Director, who will
accompany you on a daytime Qantas flight to Brisbane and on to
Darwin. In Darwin we board our 6 star luxury coach and travel south
along the Stuart Highway to Adelaide River. Here we enjoy a special
Barramundi lunch at the Adelaide River Hotel before visiting the War
Cemetery. Then on to the old gold mining town of Pine Creek before
we arrive in Katherine for our stay at the Knott’s Crossing Resort. (D)
DAY 2 | Wednesday 27 June 2012
. . . we of the Never Never!
This morning we travel south along the Stuart Highway to Mataranka
and a chance to swim in the warm Thermal Pools. Then on to the Daly
Waters Pub for lunch. In the afternoon we travel to Cape Crawford
and on to Borroloola for our stay at the Savannah Way Motel. (B,L,D)
DAY 3 | Thursday 28 June 2012
. . . the Lost City!
Today, we explore the remote Borroloola and the Port of Bing Bong
before making our way south to board our exclusive flights into the
“Lost City”. This pristine wilderness is only reached by helicopter, so
few travellers have ever had the opportunity to experience this most
amazing “wonder” of Australia. The giant columns and beautiful
landscapes, together with the unique plant and animal life will
enchant you. After this experience we return to Borroloola and our
accommodation. (B,L,D)
DAY 4 | Friday 29 June 2012
. . . Mitchell grass and no trees!
After a sumptuous breakfast we depart for our early morning drive
to Cape Crawford and then down the Tablelands Highway across the
vast Mitchell Grass Plains (360 degrees and not a tree in sight!) to
Barkly Homestead for lunch. Then settle back as we make our way
back to the Stuart Highway and on to explore the old Tennant Creek
Telegraph Station. Overnight stay at the Bluestone Motor Inn. (B,L,D)
DAY 5 | Saturday 30 June 2012 .
. . . the mysterious Devil’s Marbles!
We explore the Devil’s Marbles which in Aboriginal mythology are
the eggs of the Rainbow Serpent. Then south visiting Wycliffe Wells,
Barrow Creek and Aileron before reaching Alice Springs. We enjoy a
two night stay at the Aurora Alice Springs Hotel right on Todd Mall.
Tonight you’ll enjoy the unique tastes of bush foods at the fabulous
Red Ochre Restaurant. (B,L,D)
DAY 6 | Sunday 1 July 2012
. . . exploring the Alice!
This morning we travel the Western Macdonnells to Simpsons Gap,
Standley Chasm, Namatjira’s twin ghost gums and grave, Connellan
Airways and much more, leaving the afternoon to shop and explore this
unique place. We dine again at the Red Ochre Grill and afterwards,
some of our group will take a limousine to the Lassiter’s Casino to
watch the locals at work. (B,D)
DAY 7 | Monday 2 July 2012
. . . into Kings Canyon!
Today we leave Alice Springs and make our down the Stuart Highway
to Erldunda for a great morning tea. We travel on to Kings Canyon;
here you’ll have a chance to “walk the rim” or stroll up the canyon
after lunch before returning to Erldunda Desert Oaks Resort. (B,L,D)
DAY 8 | Tuesday 3 July 2012
. . . Uluru and Kata Tjuta!
We travel to Mt Connor and Uluru today. We make our way into the
Uluru Kata Tjuta NP (Ayers Rock) in time to climb or walk the base.
The choice is yours. Yea! We came, we saw, we conquered!. We visit
the Cultural Centre and then Yulara Resort township for lunch and
the chance to shop. In the afternoon we head off to Kata Tjuta (the
Olgas) for a canyon walk in Olga Gorge, upon our return, we watch the
tourists at Sunset Strip as the colour of the Rock changes with the
setting sun. Here you’ll be treated to our own Black Tie champagne
service. We have dinner at the Outback Pioneer Hotel Aussie BBQ,
before settling down for our late return to Erldunda. (B,D)
DAY 9 | Wednesday 4 July 2012
. . . into some remote areas!
This morning we depart south to Marla (at the head of the Oodnadatta
Track) and on to the mysterious Breakaways with its myriad of
colours (Priscilla, Mad Max. Pitch Black and other movies were made
here!) Then on to Coober Pedy for a fabulous town and opal mine tour
complete with opal cutting and polishing displays and the chance to
purchase that special item!! Overnight stay at the Opal Inn. (B,L,D)
DAY 10 | Thursday 5 July 2012
. . . Woomera rockets and history!
This morning we leave the surreal landscape of Coober Pedy and
travel south to Glendambo (pop 50 humans, 500,000 sheep and 50
Million Blowflies) and then on to Woomera. Here we have a chance
to relive those heady days when Australia entered the space race;
you’ll explore Space Park and this virtual ghost town. Then off again
travelling to Roxby Downs and our overnight stay at the Roxby Downs
Motor Inn. (B,L,D)
DAY 11 | Friday 6 July 2012
. . . exploring Australia’s richest mine!
This morning we enjoy a guided tour of the incredible Olympic Dam
Mine which produces copper, gold, silver and uranium. You’ll marvel
at the shear size of the project in this most remote location before
we depart and travel to Port Augusta and on to the Clare Valley. We
enjoy an exclusive wine tasting and our stay at the Clare Valley Motor

DAY 12 | Saturday 7 July 2012
. . . to beautiful Adelaide
This morning we depart this magic autumn wonderland and travel
to Adelaide in time to board our Qantas flight to Sydney. (B,L)
